Events: RAY-BAN DISTRICT 1937 Featuring Blondie and MS MR

Ray-Ban's District 1937 event was a night to remember! Celebrating the launch of their new materials (denim, velvet, leather, titanium & steel) with music performances by MS MR and the iconic Blondie. SIR Stage 37 was setup with DIY stations to either interact with art projects or create your own glasses. I did a few of the DIY projects before I made my way upstairs to the Ray-Ban Remix lounge. That's where I designed my custom made Ray-Bans, sipped cocktails with friends and bumped into some celebrities until it was performance time. I was beyond excited to see Blondie! Her and the band were awesome! It was amazing to hear her songs and realize how many are still used to this day in movies. They definitely transport you to a different place in your mind remembering where you were when you first heard it or what you were watching.

More about District 1937
The name DISTRICT 1937 recognizes the Garment District’s distinct heritage since the early 20th century as one of the centers of fashion and textile design and manufacturing, as well as Ray-Ban’s beginnings in 1937 as a manufacturer of speciality eyewear for the U.S. Air Force.

Each of the materials used in the new collection has had a long history and strong impact on both popular culture and technology, inspiring generations of artists, designers, craftspeople, and innovators. Guests attending DISTRICT 1937 will be able to view the work of contemporary artists inspired by these unexpected materials – such as Mark Evans’ stunning etched-leather canvases, Anne Lilly’s kinetic steel sculptures, and Ian Berry/Denimu’s denim masterpieces – highlighting the inventive use of these materials in popular culture.

We’ve had a lengthy love affair with Ray-Ban and have been wearing them for a long time,” said Blondie. “We love experimenting and pushing the boundaries, not only in our music but with our look, so we’re excited to be working with Ray-Ban in celebration of their latest reinvention - their new materials collection.”
