The inspiration for the GEORGINE Fall/Winter 2017 collection comes from permanent hotel dwellers, those glamorous creatures that have called the world’s most interesting properties home. Ranging from Coco Chanel’s suite at The Ritz and Oscar Wilde’s chambers at Hotel d’Alsace, to Howard Hughes bungalow at The Beverly Hills Hotel, and Edie Sedgwick’s room at The Chelsea Hotel, the transient energy of a chic enclave fueled their creativity and made everyday feel like a permanent vacation.

The day after NYC was hit with a snow storm Michael Costello presented his Fall Winter 2017/2018 collection at Skylight Clarkson Square. He truly is a designer that brings out the confidence, curves and the eye catching room entrance/exit flare to women's fashion. This collection was all white, silver, dark metal and black with accents of lace, sheer moments and sparkle. You'll need to accessorize with a warm coat, but once it comes off you'll be the star of the room....

The Michael Costello woman this season is the enviable vixen, which could be described as the coolest chick on the planet. She is a rock and roller who takes center stage with her magnetic charisma and extravagant nature. She knows who to attract almost any eye and how to turn a cold shoulder to those who don’t understand her fire. We are telling her love story this season because when a woman with this much magic falls in love, it is a story that everyone wants to watch.

Midnight Botanical Bash
Michael Costello's collections are always a joy to see saunter down the runway each season. They're always this overwhelming sense of beauty and luxury that envelopes the designs that transports you to the luxe inspirations they come from. The colors were rich and bold demanding your attention as the models strut past. The silhouettes were grand statement pieces perfect for any romantic rendezvous!

This season brings you to a luxurious midnight soiree in a beautiful botanical garden. Gowns are flowing with color and voluminous pieces are ruffling across the landscape. Glimmers of light reflect off beads and metallics. The architecture of the garments are evocative of flowers blooming. The natural beauty of a flower resembles that of a woman. Delicate. Radiant. Beautiful.

GEORGINE Fall 2016 collection was
overflowing with lux fabrics, bold hues and exquisite furs! One of the main
reasons I always look forward to her show each season are the ever so chic
coats; I'm truly obsessed. There was a mix of fun flirty looks as well as wild
side and mystery capturing all sides of femme characters which happened to be
the theme. I'm going with sultry and mysterious, which one are you?

Dreams do come true…just not always how you imagined them to. For
Fall/Winter 2016, GEORGINE
is inspired by the works of The Brother Grimm and the long time struggle
between the good and the evil found in Fairy Tales. She wanted to re-imagine
the traditional princesses, heroes and villains of the stories we have all
grown up with but modernize them for the 21st Century. “What would
Cinderella wear to a ball in this day and age?” wondered GEORGINE
designer Georgine Ratelband, “Would Snow White wear an embroidered leather
motorcycle jacket when she escaped to the woods? These were my thoughts as I
sought to create my own modern day fairy tale.” Other classic characters like
Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel and villains such as The Evil
Queen all get modern day makeovers in this collection.
This was my first time attending Michael Costello's runway show and it did not disappoint. The show was filled with drama from the bright colors, intense draping, jewel embellishments and of course the sassy sashay walks by the models.
Spring 2016 Inspiration
Inspired by feminine decadence, Costello is merging his bold shapes with a softer and sweeter color palate. “This collection has more movement, leaving more to the imagination,” according to Costello. “It evokes the sexiness of a tight dress with the draping of an elegant gown.”
Gaining recognition as both a brand and designer, Costello chose this collection to unveil brighter gem tones, using the body as contrast. “These dresses make women feel desired and unforgettable,” according to Costello.
Right in the middle of this past fashion week
season I had a wedding in Michigan, leaving me no choice but to cut down the
number of shows I'd be able to attend. Luckily GEORGINE wasn't one of them, I
always look forward to seeing their fun filled colorful clothes and accessories
collection each season. This SS16 collection kept that trend alive and going
strong. I found myself drawn to the blues, purples and yellows, not surprising
since those tend to be my favorite colors. Although this was for spring and
summer GEORGINE still kept the fur as a key style on the runway along with
leather. By keeping both elements in pastel colors they preserved and exuded
that easy breezy vibe that the warmer weather brings.

For Spring/Summer 2016, GEORGINE wanted to break traditional dressing
protocols and defy the conventional approach of how people normally dress. For
instance, leathers are treated in pastels in lieu of the mainstream rugged dark
treatment, French laces are cut into sweatshirts and active wear, and spandex
is celebrated in eveningwear. The results are subtle and surprising and inline
with the Internet age where nothing is ever as it seems.

For Spring/Summer 2016, Laurel DeWitt pushes open a door in her ever-evolving craft, revealing a lush, romantic fantasy world brimming with the promise of new life and the possibility of a world beyond. Ms. DeWitt’s current collection débuts not only a deeply hued array of elegant separates -- introducing shagreen, leather, and fabric lacing to her already complex repertoire -- but also doses the collection with metal flowers, entirely hand-cut, hand-rolled, and hand-painted to create a stunning display of incredible appliqué work rivaled by few in its detail and labor.
Spring/Summer pioneers two new
accessory categories for the designer: Eyewear and Millinery, where meticulous
metal work on a smaller scale is of remark. In her world, dimension is best
when juxtaposed, and Ms. DeWitt conflates these tiny techniques against
the generous, tulip-like curves of a ball gown’s skirting, or the wide, precise
swoop of a structured cape, evocative of the scaled breadth of a butterfly.
Also of note are the wasp waists and draped contours of the late 1940s New
Look, reflected in the slim bodices and grand red carpet gowns, which, though
made of metal, reminisce a fluttery, petaled lightness.

Yet another striking collection from Son Jung Wan. The collection exuded elegance and sparkle as each garment glided down the runway. The collection was inspired
by Korea’s Jeju Island, an Aquarian treasure, the designer fluently
translates the gentle beauty of nature through this classically elegant
collection. The
models looked ethereal as they floated down the runway in beautiful pastel hues
of lilac and blush interspersed with deep turquoise reminiscent of the sea,
metallic’s sequin and alabaster whites.
Other highlights from the collection included a blush geometric cutout
silk top with a gold metallic skirt, a silk blush dress with a tulip skirt and
cut out sides, a bronze boat neck sleeveless sheath dress with sheer
asymmetrical hem, a pastel multi colored sequin strapless romper and a
sleeveless metallic turquoise deep v-neck dress with collar. So many standout choices to glam up your closet!

And so it begins....New York Fashion Week that is. No longer using Lincoln Center as the it's main hub for runway and presentation. The spring/summer 2016 collections are now split are split between two locations; in Midtown at the Skylight at Moynihan Station and in Soho at the Skylight Clarkson Square.
