Exclusive Kat

Are you ready for the exclusive…

Yet another striking collection from Son Jung Wan. The collection exuded elegance and sparkle as each garment glided down the runway. The collection was inspired by Korea’s Jeju Island, an Aquarian treasure, the designer fluently translates the gentle beauty of nature through this classically elegant collection. The models looked ethereal as they floated down the runway in beautiful pastel hues of lilac and blush interspersed with deep turquoise reminiscent of the sea, metallic’s sequin and alabaster whites.

Other highlights from the collection included a blush geometric cutout silk top with a gold metallic skirt, a silk blush dress with a tulip skirt and cut out sides, a bronze boat neck sleeveless sheath dress with sheer asymmetrical hem, a pastel multi colored sequin strapless romper and a sleeveless metallic turquoise deep v-neck dress with collar. So many standout choices to glam up your closet!

Another show that debuted on Valentine's Day: Son Jung Wan, filled with romance partnered with a bit of glitz and glam. The metallics paired with the the bold orange and jewel tones were truly exquisite! Each time I see her collections, I can easily see the love she puts into her work along with the time in making outcome of the design impeccable. The collection was bold and playful with figure forgiving structure with looser fits and full coats.

More about the collection:
Inspired by the romantic MGM films of the 1950’s and the fashion photography of Gordon Parks the designer presented a collection best described as retro-meets-modern; chock-full of glamour with a touch of romance. Fabrics consisted of merino wool and handcrafted knits in unusual color combinations. Lively metallics, leather and multi-colored furs brought forth the relaxed yet chic mood of the era.
Standouts included wool coats in vibrant orange, adorned with either a fox fur collar, lamb fur details or beaver fur sleeves. Turquoise gaucho pants and voluminous skirts gave way to the finale look, a mint green, sequined cocktail dress, which references the effortless evening look of the fifties. A selection of menswear included cashmere and wool coats paired with rich colored trousers to complement the womens’ designs, exhibiting a cohesive line.

Son Jung Wan's Spring/Summer 2015 collection was inspired by the concept of yin and yang and the idea that contrasting elements do not conflict, but exist in harmony. What was interesting about this collection was the use of fabric and design elements that dress up the ensemble while using a more relaxed fit. I particularly enjoyed the rich jewel tones and the bold gold both were not featured much in other collections during fashion week.

Son Jung Wan used the blues of the Danube River, jungle green, deep purple and cool mint give a fresh feeling and stand out against chalk white and tan neutrals. Metallic threads and sequins bring to mind the glint of the sun, and add unique detailing to each look. Many tangible dualities arise when rough-textured fabrics like hemp are made into sinuous silhouettes. Shapes are soft and feminine in washed linen and sheer silk.

Son Jung Wan launched her first e-commerce site this month with the Spring/Summer 2014 runway collection and the Fall/Winter 2014 collection available for presale. To celebrate this new venture they had a mini preview showcasing gorgeous items from both seasons and the best of all I got to play dress up in the stunning furs in my Where's Waldo-esque collage pretending to be on a red carpet in front of the flashing lights.

The site puts striking imagery at the forefront on the landing page, with a behind the scenes look from the Fall 2014 show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center as well as an insider’s  backstage video. Below are some of my top looks that I want for my closet. I'm into the jumpsuits/catsuits/one pieces whatever you'd like to call them, especially the crisp white style (below, left). The bold colors of the dresses accented with metallic shimmery details translates to absolute perfection! For the Fall/Winter collection the silhouettes are so flattering with fun flirty details that can be worn by a wide age range and of course the details and the fabrics used make this collection so luxurious you can't help but be intrigued.

FW14

Step into the stylish world of Son Jung Wan! I got a glimpse into the fall/winter collection during the Concept Korea show which left me wanting more. Gold shimmering fabric flowed in the wind as the models strut down the cat walk . Fur and feathers were big trends in this collection. Another were bright hues to keep the winter blues at bay. See the collection in its entirety above and my top looks below!

One of my favorite shows is Concept Korea! I adore seeing five designers with completely different looks, that take risks and during one block of time. September fashion week this past year was my first time being a guest for their presentation and was lucky enough to get a spot for their full runway show at Lincoln Center. Take a look at the video above for coverage at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and click here for my favorite looks from each of the five designers! I hope you enjoy Choiboko, Cres. E Dim., Kye, Lie san bong and Son Jung Wan as much as I do.

CHOIBOKO’s Fall Winter 2013 collection is titled, “Dance of Gods,” mixes various abstract images of nature as if it to create a dance. ”Dance of Gods’ is abstract expression that symbolizes the magic of comfort and hope.

Feminine looks for women is what Son Jung Wan showcased for spring 2013. So much detail in simple designs. The fabric choice went from flowy to body skimming. Most followed a neutral color pallet but there were pops of yellow, blues and purples…all were stunning. It was nice to see a separate runway collection outside of the Concept Korea presentation. See more highlights from the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week show and pictures below of my picks from the collection.

Seeing one collection alone is an amazing opportunity, but seeing 5 takes the experience to a whole new level! Concept Korea is a collaborative project that brings Korean Culture to us through fashion. The theme of this season is Five Koren Traditional Colors with five different meanings, Red (fire), Black (water), Blue (tree), White (iron) and Yellow (ground). Here's the breakdown: Choiboko (white), Cres. E Dim (yellow), Kye (black), Lie sang bong (red) and Son Jung Wan (blue). Each collection was beautiful in its on way...the details in the designs were flawless, truly amazing.
