Are you ready for the exclusive…

Last week I went to hang out with Captain Morgan and celebrity chef Hugh Acheson to support WhyHunger. An amazing charity encouraging movement to end hunger and poverty by connecting people to nutritious, affordable food and by supporting grassroots solutions that inspire self-reliance and community empowerment. Captain Morgan & chef Hugh Acheson have teamed up to bring awareness to the WhyHunger cause and to inspire holiday dishes and cocktails. Hugh is encouraging consumers 21+ to share their recipes and entertaining tips utilizing the hashtag #CaptainsTable. Every time the hashtag is used throughout the holiday season, the brand will donate $1 to the charity! I had a brief chat with Hugh asking him what his favorite dish for Thanksgiving, no surprise, like most its stuffing. He likes to make his with lots of leeks and sage and perfectly toasted bread.

On Oct 16th, World Food Day, Beaulieu Vineyards in partnership with actor Chris Noth held the first-ever BV Give & Give Back Chef Challenge at the Institute of Culinary Education in NYC. These first-class chefs were stripped of their typical ingredients and challenged to create nutritious, delicious and affordable meals using only ingredients that are typically found in area food pantries at this time of year. The chefs were held to a 30 minute time limit and an ingredient list that contains only commonly donated food pantry ingredients such as rice, pasta, tomatoes, zucchini, beans and peanut butter.

Participating chefs included Executive Chef Orlando Sanchez of Butcher Bar, Executive Chef Luke Venner of BLT Fish Shack, Corporate Chef Jose Luis Flores of Richard Sandoval Restaurants, and Executive Chef Pecko Zantilaveevan of The Four Seasons.

After half an hour of intense competition, Chef Luke Venner from BLT Fish Shack’s recipe of Warm Potato & Kale Salad with Green Goddess and Poached Eggs was named the winner by judges Chris Noth, Gary Oppenheimer, Executive Director and Founder of AmpleHarvest.org, Cindy Avila, PR Director and Sabrina Sexton, Lead Chef Instructor at ICE.  A $10,000 donation was given to food-charity Grow NYC in Luke’s name on behalf of BV.

As part of its continued commitment to hunger relief this year, BV has expanded its Give & Give Back program to work with fresh food donation organizations like AmpleHarvest.org and City Harvest who helped provide the ingredient list for last night’s event.

And don’t forget, anyone hoping to get involved in the cause, making a difference has never been easier. BV has teamed up with AmpleHarvest.org to work together to help feed more families across the U.S.  From now until the end of the year, you can text “Give” to 79008 and BV will donate $1 up to $50,000* to Ampleharvest.org to aid in hunger relief! See full recipes here at the bottom of my post.

On December 7th, St. Jude's hosted their 6th Annual Winter Gala to benefit the children of the St. Jude's Research Hospital. It was a rainy evening, but that didn't put a damper on the party! Approximately 500 guests came out dressed in their best to the beautiful Angel Orensanz Foundation on Manhattan’s lower east side. Friends of St. Jude showed support for the cause while enjoying cocktails, small bites and breaking it down on the dance floor. Ticket sales along with proceeds from the silent auction help fight against childhood cancer. The auction literally had something for everyone, some included dining at luxe restaurants, great fitness packages, fashion from Rent the Runway and even sport items from NY Yankees & Giants. St. Jude's has been helping children and their families fight against cancer for 50 years, not to mention they cover the cost of treatment and pays the lodging, food, and travel for patients and a family member or legal guardian. This past long holiday weekend I was busy being fancy in the Hamptons! My first official time being out in this posh place. It had been awhile since I've left the madness of the city and relax, enjoying the fresh air with picturesque scenery. The FAME Festival was just what I needed. An escape from the city, for a good cause (Benefit NYNY) while having fun. This was a party from start to finish. Waiting to get on the press bus we had Ciroc infused cupcakes. You know I love dessert so I had 3…what?! They were minis :) Arrived at the destination to a red carpet, beaming sunlight, music from the dj (Talib Kweli), screams from the pool party, tantalizing aroma from the chefs and the beautiful beach lined with boats. I can't even described how special I felt to be there. If this is what summer will be like I can't wait! #YOLO

Swizz Beatz shows his support for the perseverance of the arts in school. Particularly in the Bronx Charter School. So many stars came to celebrate the 4th annual charity auction. This cause is very important to Swizz, who grew up in the Bronx. The money raised goes to after-school programs & assistance for students who need extra help. It's always heart warming to see celebrities give back and use their influence for a positive purpose. Having other outlets in school help mold children into well-rounded adults...which we desperately need! For kids, seeing is believing and knowing that he's from the same background gives hope/inspiration for them to achieve more in their lives. The event showcased art from the students and items from celebrities to be auctioned.
