Like most I'm always searching online for new stuff or walking around the city for inspiration. If you've been a long time follower of EK, you might remember my top 8 posts. Well, I decided to bring it back, lowering the total down to 5 and try featuring different categories like fashion/beauty, mobile apps, food/cocktails, pets, events/outings and lifestyle. Basically anything that catches my eye, that I think will catch yours too...enough chit chat let's begin!
Visit the Museum of the City Of New York for Mac Conner's A New York Life. The exhibit is open till Feb 1st. Obsessed with Mad Men? If yes, this is an exhibit to see! Mac Conner was a magazine and advertising illustrator in the 1950s-1960s. Later he began to work with Redbook & Cosmopolitan and even Chrysler (you know, the auto brand).
Fashion: All Things Blue
Recently Rihanna was spotted wearing a KYE coat from her Fall/Winter 2014 Collection. The perfect pairing for these recent low temps would be this coat. The hue is perfection and looks super warm also while everyone is bundled up in there expected black bubble coats, you'll be a sure show stopper!
Jetsetter backpack from Henri Bendel comes in 3 colors, but this is by far my favorite. This gorgeous bag was spotted on Taylor Swift (in black). Be able to carry all that you need, on trend and in style. Get yours here!
Food: An Easy Feast
Seriously, how good does this look?! Found this on one of my favorite sites to find new exciting things, Pure Wow. The recipe is called Turketta, go here for full recipe. Looks fulfilling, delicious and like it could feed a small dinner party or be great for left overs. Definitely trying this!
Apps: Saving You $$$$
The Ride with Via app is for Manhattan only at this time; but its pretty awesome. The $5 per ride is hard to beat. And before you ask what's the catch, it is a shared ride. The riders are also going in your same direction and it is less crowded than the subway. Another bonus, if your company uses transit check, you can use it to pay for the rides!
I found another app called SurgeProtector which helps find a different pick up location near you that helps avoid the surge price by Uber. This is great since Uber is practically in every big city now and who hasn't been shocked or outraged at the annoying surge prices when you need a car the most (i.e. rainstorm, NYE, etc).
For the Pets: Winter Lifesaver
Luckily for me, Chicken doesn't mind wearing his booties by Pawz. But for other who aren't as lucky. Check out Musher's Secret. Even though I put this as great for winter, it can be used for all seasons and its safe and natural.
More about it:
Musher's Secret is a dense, barrier wax that forms a breathable bond with your dog's paws. Developed in Canada for use with sledding dogs, it provides tenacious protection even in the most extreme conditions. Made from a blend of several food-grade waxes, then refined according to our our own special formulations, Musher's Secret is the safe, non-toxic way to protect your dog's paws. The semi-permeable shield is absorbed into the paws, allowing perspiration to escape through the toes.
Outings: Step into a Beautiful Timewarp

Yesterday, I went to the adorable Haven's Kitchen to watch Chef Hugh Acheson partner with Captain Morgan to make new summer inspired dishes and cocktails. Who doesn't enjoy a tasty rum cocktails paired with equally delicious bites. Some of you may already be familiar with Chef Hugh Acheson through my previous post for Thanksgiving dishes here or from he's appearances as a judge on Top Chef! Hugh's passion is making southern food with a twist, being a Canadian native he finds the cuisine of the southern awe-inspiring. During this round table demo at Haven's Kitchen we were able to sample two food items and two cocktails from the dynamic duo Hugh & Captain Morgan Rum. I must say each concoction and recipe was delightful, but I guess if I had to choose….it would be the skirt steak sandwich because I love a good sandwich with perfectly cooked meat and the Mint Mutiny cocktail, it was light and refreshing and I enjoy smelling fresh mint with each sip.
Each of the options are perfect for this summer's upcoming gatherings with friends and family because fun, food and cocktails go hand in hand for summer! Check out the recipes below to start making them in your home!
