This was my first time attending a Taoray Wang show & it was beautiful! The winter weather was terrible during fashion week and made it hard to motivate yourself to get up, dress up and go...but I made it. Jackets are my absolute favorite item to shop for and the coats/jackets in this line were so stunning. The one in particular that I'm still obsessing over is the purple & black blazer (see 2nd collage image below).

CROSSOVER, the newest collection from Taoray Wang, namesake brand of designer Wang Tao, meticulously blends contrasting shapes, luxurious fabrics and bold accessories for a modern take on suiting. In this journey, Wang Tao combines opposite elements; classic with avant-garde deconstruction, masculine with feminine, East and West. The merging of these elements gives birth to distinct, iconic silhouettes, which redefine the suit’s history starting with - and running parallel to - the Qing Dynasty, and evolving along the way. Models appeared dressed in delicate, feminine lace negligees under empowering and structured suits, which are symbols of power, business and prestige. Similarly, bold dresses appear in rich fabrics and striking colors.
Designer Wang Tao’s label TAORAY WANG is designed for the powerful, professional and modern woman who wants to be stylish, elegant and sexy. The brand serves a global and confident woman who is not afraid to show her femininity in edgy design while she plays her role as a politician, lawyer and other executive roles. Classic men's fabrics and lines are tamed into graceful silhouettes.

The Laquan Smith SS17 collection was full of white, grey, metallic, blue and red ensembles with a combination of sporty chicness. I was especially drawn towards the white and copper/gold pieces. These seemed to standout as the more clean lined classic silhouettes. The designs ranged from edgy/sporty to girly/feminine making it easy for women to find a style that catches her eye. For his Spring / Summer 2017 collection, designer LaQuan Smith drew inspiration from elements of nature – electrical storms, strong gusts of wind and the powerful bolts of lightning that precede wicked storms. He connected with the power of dark storms, brewing to unveil a collection electrifying to the natural eye.
This season, Smith's signature bodycon and two-piece sets are inspired by the patterns found in a stormy night sky. Lightning strikes before thunder roars, resulting in earthshattering hues. Bright tones of lighting bolts are blended into the darkness. Distressed imagery, electrifying a deep dusk sky, and pair with illuminating tones like ice purple and powder blue to yield this season's contemplative mood.
Fitted fabrications, including a crew neck bodycon dress, are accompanied by lengthy ornate dresses affixed with lace. Smith also introduces shirting and soft knits for the first time to ease the enchanting nature of his resilient storm, the collection. The collection's silhouettes strike a bold balance between the calm beforehand and the mayhem following the electric storm.
Katy Xiomara was another 1st for me this season. The collection had a seaside schoolgirl vibe, filled with bright pastel colors and flirty prints. The makeup and hair added to the beachy esthetic of the line. Each ensemble had a cheerful air about it perfect for spring and summer. Makes me nostalgic for this summers quickly approaching end. SPRING 2017 INSPIRATION:
The new SS17 collection is inspired by the great maritime power that Portugal was in the 15th century. Colors reflect the depths of the sea, Lace reinterprets fishing nets, and maritime motifs are reimagined in embroidery and laser cut outs. From this combination of ideas emerge a spontaneous bond between sophistication and simplicity with a sweet touch of urbanity, where nostalgia is approached with a fresh sense of modernity.
ABOUT THE DESIGNER:
Katty Xiomara was born in Venezuela within a Portuguese family and moved to Porto at the age of 18. Graduating from the prestigious Citex (now Modatex), she launched her brand in 1998 and after many awards, flagship stores, and accolades, has become a fixture in the Portuguese fashion industry.
Katty Xiomara first took part in Portugal Fashion in 1996 when she was still a fashion student. Shortly afterwards, she became a regular presence at national events. She has also taken part in some Portugal Fashion Paris events. In 2005, she began her participation in international trade shows such as Bread & Butter, Berlin and Barcelona, and the Project, Las Vegas, and others.
Out of Africa
This was my first time seeing Miguel Vieira's work
and it was truly glamorous yet approachable for both men and women. Neutrals
have never looked so good! The metallic and gold tone accents only upped the
ante. The patterns on the ensembles were fun, playful and easy way to take you
look to the next level. Loved it and can't wait to see what February brings!

"Out of Africa” was the inspiration and could be the perfect scenery for this collection. Tribal patterns with gold tones, reminiscent of the sunset, and natural patterns, almost like animal camouflages, immediately remind us of the majestic beauty of the African continent. Part safari, part tribal, and part minimal, it is impossible to escape the sensory experiences that Africa transmits us, transported to a metropolitan setting.
About the designer:
Miguel Vieira is a successful designer who started in 1986 and has been producing his own collections since 1988. He Participates regularly in Italian, Spanish and French fairs and his proposals, seasonally presented at Portugal Fashion and Moda Lisbon have already been paraded on catwalks as diverse as São Paulo, Istanbul, Paris, Barcelona, Uruguay, Lodz, Madrid and Milan.
The Miguel Vieira brand is registered in numerous categories, all over the world: menswear, women’s clothing, jewelry, shoes, leather goods, furniture, glasses, children’s wear, underwear, among others.
Due to his success at home and abroad, Miguel Vieira has been awarded the Commendation of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator (2006) and has received the Prince Henry the Navigator Award in the innovation category (2009). He also won the Golden Globe for Best Fashion Designer in 2007 and 2012.
Midnight Botanical Bash
Michael Costello's collections are always a joy to see saunter down the runway each season. They're always this overwhelming sense of beauty and luxury that envelopes the designs that transports you to the luxe inspirations they come from. The colors were rich and bold demanding your attention as the models strut past. The silhouettes were grand statement pieces perfect for any romantic rendezvous!

This season brings you to a luxurious midnight soiree in a beautiful botanical garden. Gowns are flowing with color and voluminous pieces are ruffling across the landscape. Glimmers of light reflect off beads and metallics. The architecture of the garments are evocative of flowers blooming. The natural beauty of a flower resembles that of a woman. Delicate. Radiant. Beautiful.

Well Zac has done it again! Another stunning collection full of chic evening wear, jackets and cocktail dresses. The setting was located in the timeless venue of Grand Central Station in Vanderbilt Hall with a cascading runway under the ever so lovely gold chandelier lights. As if the beauty of the clothes weren't enough, Naomi Campbell strutted down the catwalk in the phenomenal ball gown and once again with Zac Posen himself in the finale walk. Sigh, if I could be breathtaking as Naomi Campbell for just a day...
Another show that debuted on Valentine's Day: Son Jung Wan, filled with romance partnered with a bit of glitz and glam. The metallics paired with the the bold orange and jewel tones were truly exquisite! Each time I see her collections, I can easily see the love she puts into her work along with the time in making outcome of the design impeccable. The collection was bold and playful with figure forgiving structure with looser fits and full coats.

Inspired by the romantic MGM films of the 1950’s and the fashion photography of Gordon Parks the designer presented a collection best described as retro-meets-modern; chock-full of glamour with a touch of romance. Fabrics consisted of merino wool and handcrafted knits in unusual color combinations. Lively metallics, leather and multi-colored furs brought forth the relaxed yet chic mood of the era.
Standouts included wool coats in vibrant orange, adorned with either a fox fur collar, lamb fur details or beaver fur sleeves. Turquoise gaucho pants and voluminous skirts gave way to the finale look, a mint green, sequined cocktail dress, which references the effortless evening look of the fifties. A selection of menswear included cashmere and wool coats paired with rich colored trousers to complement the womens’ designs, exhibiting a cohesive line.

This was my first time attending Francesca Liberatore's runway show and her second consecutive season at New York Fashion Week. As soon as it began you could definitely get a feel for the theme "The Super Hero Woman" with the use of flats, bags that look like shields and the stars on the fabric. The collection showcased a cool mix of everyday wear to formal wear. I liked the color palette for this; especially the gray, black, blue and purple on that fur vest! The vibe was more of an easy breezy on the go for the busy fashionista that saves the day and looks fabulous as she does it.

Francesca’s Fall/Winter Collection brings to the catwalk a woman in evolution, divided between ordinary austerity, elegance and a provocative statement of a heroic ego in a moral quest for a courageous ideal. Strict tailoring, outerwear, precise lines and black and whites are deconstructed to provide a glimpse and then affirm prints akin to Medieval Knighthood, replete with strong fabrics, leather, furs, heavy jacquards and, for the first time, knitwear with the bold battle colors: red and silver.

Skingraft, always a showstopper; using blacks, whites and creams as their base for their designs that could actually be worn during the unbearable temps we have been experiencing. Each season, Skingraft puts out an effortlessly cool collection that is a style of its own. The layering and draping of the scarfs and sweaters add a dramatic effect as the models glided down the runway. As always they used another amazing music mix followed by Marilyn Mason's The Beautiful People during the finale walk.

The Autumn/Winter 2015 collection is inspired by young nomads trekking through the Peruvian mountains in search for new horizons. Also, inspired by the legends of alien activity around Peru, the new collection explores ideas of ancient and complex geometric patterns and brutal statue-like silhouettes.
Shearling. leather, silk, wool jersey, cashmere and hand woven tapestries equip the AW15 Skingraft nomad with a survivalist silhouette that remains soft and refined. I took a trip downtown to the Standard Hotel making a cameo at MADE Fashion Week all for an up close and personal view of the HARBISON FW15 Collection. Although runway shows are exciting, its presentations that allow you a real look and experience with the clothing rather than a fleeting moment down the catwalk. It gives you a chance to admire and appreciate the detail and the beauty in even the simplest of designs. The collection was filled with whites, blacks, grays with pops of bold yellow and red color blocks. HARBISON gave off a sophisticated sporty vibe for their men and women ensembles, especially using footwear by Dr. Martens. I'm sure the models were happy with that choice.

Comfort and classicism…filtered through a modernist lens. Brice Marden's rhythmic renderings, the optimism of “winter bright,” the gravity of Alexander Calder’s sculptures along Storm King’s landscape, the simplicity of a "90s" approach, not to mention Beverly Johnson's late-70s insouciance, all found its way onto the HARBISION FW15 mood board. It’s the "normal of now," if you will.

One of the shows I'm always looking forward to is GEORGINE. For the upcoming fall/winter 2015 collection it was a parade of luxe 70s looks from the models heads to their feet! The show had so much energy and when you thought it was over, their were another set of models draped in fabulous furs. The collection was full of rich jewel tone hues mixed in with some metallics and of course some timeless black ensembles.
Designer Georgine Ratelband continues to wow me with her beautiful creations. Each season her collections increase in beauty and really showcase what New York Fashion Week is all about: beauty and glam of course. The styling is always executed flawlessly, it transports you directly into the setting of her inspiration.

If you were curious, attending the Jay Godfrey presentation was how I kicked off
my Valentine's Day this year. Honestly, there could not have been a more
perfect pairing. The clothes were full of whimsy and they brilliantly exuded
the element of the day's theme, love. There wasn't an item in the collection
that I did not like and that's rare to find. You could tell each piece was made
with passion and precision; overall the Jay Godfrey Fall 2015 collection was lovely
and elegant.

The Jay Godfrey fall 2015 collection is an homage to the designer’s beginnings with a decidedly subversive takes on tailoring. A deeply rooted love for Savile Row is demonstrated throughout a strong, feminine collection that includes luxurious albeit nonconformist takes on suitings, embellished tweeds, modern ultrasuedes, and metallic accented jerseys. Mood board inspirations look to glamorous references like 1970s YSL, British tailoring mavericks like Tommy Nutter and Ozwald Boateng, and counter culture icons like Sex Pistols manager Malcolm Mclaren.
I've been a fan of KYE since the first time I saw her collection way back in Sept 2012 during the Concept Korea presentation. Her collections always have a cool edgy vibe with a hint of sophistication that recently caught the eye of Rihanna and landed 2 Chainz across from me at the show. So of course I was excited to see what she created for the upcoming Fall 15 line. KYE catches the symbols and images of luck - trump, fruits, tokens, 7s and slot machine emblems - with its usual sense of humor by displaying them on various parts of the collection.

KYE presents different types of color palettes for various effects and introduces new techniques in pattern-making: the “grass” embroidery, acrylic studding and customized ribbing. Materials also reveal diverse sources, including manipulated velvet, cotton, faux fur and denim. KYE delivers the fashion’s symbol for the losers by offering new retro styling in contrast to its usual experimental offerings in previous collections. Perhaps, this points to KYE’s new direction in its fashion business.
